The Tortise and the Hedgehog

One day a little tortoise met a hedgehog. The little tortise said "Hello Mr. Nice to meet you." "Hi little fellow. Where are you going?" Mr. Hedhehog said. I'm on my way to poo-poo. It's a sort of Emergency Situation."

I died laughing at this! The sort of things that they put on notebooks is hilarious!!

Mister Soju Man

On Sunday we took in the Lantern Festival in Seoul near Insadong to mark the beginning of the celebrations of Buddha's Birthday. I think I've been here too long when in a metropolis city of 22 million, I know every second person. Okay, so I am exagerating, but I did meet a lot of people that I knew. And I also had some unfriendly encounters as well. Take soju man #1 for example. We were at the beginning of Insadong checking out some phamplets and along comes mister soju man who goes behind a fence to take a dump. Now is this humane!?? I think not. And neither was the stench that came out of him. We ran away before it could get worse! Soju man #2 was a little more gentler on the nose. I was sitting on the street side taking random pictures of nothing and along comes mister soju man #2, thinking that I was taking pictures of him. He goes to hit me, but couldn't reach me and ened up flicking dirty ashes from his cigeratte that he probably picked up on the street. He muttered something not so nice in Koran and walked on again. Okay so aside from those incidents, I had a nice day. The weather was awesoome and Mary and Hannah and I took in the booths of the festival. Mary ended up going home and so Hannah and I went to dinner in Insadong before taking in the parade. The parade was nice, but so long. Once you've seen one thing, you've seen it all. We left halfway through as it was getting late and sleepy time was setting in.

Wrestling

When I was younger, I used to watch wresting every now and then. Dazzled by my favorites, from the million dollar man to Jake the Snake. And who could forget Andre the Giant? Well, Andre died a few years ago, but he is back! Well, in Korean form at least. My Saturday class consists of all business men and one of them I swear is Andre the Giant! At 6'4", he is not quite so tall, but he has a face just like him, huge hands and a deep huskey voice. Now if I could only get him to do a body slam....

A Lazy Update

Okay, let's say that lately I have been very lazy in the upkeep of this blog. I am working much these days, with an extra added Saturday class, in addition to my day and evening classes. But I am enjoying it all, as busy as it sometimes can get.

Last week, my kids and I along with a few more teachers went on a field trip to a museum. It was the first time I went on a field trip with my new kids and it was a lot of fun. First the kids got to make thier own tshirts by painting pictures on them. I was dying to make my own as well, but we had to help our kids! After running around at lunch, we took in a few in a few exhibits at the museum, a cartoon and then it was a sleepy bus ride back to school.

During the first weekend of May, Meryl and I went hiking in Gangcheon, which is on the east coast. I nearly slept in and almost missed my bus (always a first)! The hike started off easy enough and then slowly got a little more difficult, to the point that we were singing songs to motivate each other to the next set of steep stairs. But it was well worth it though! That night we ate some awesome galbi and drank a few beer before retiring to bed. The next day, we took in the butterfly festival in Hampyeong. So many butterflies were free flying in a greenhouse and would pitch on your shouler, or even your finger! We also ate some soy beans and barley which were smoked in a grass fire. This is what the soldiers ate as a snack during the Korean war.

The last week of April, Hannah and Collen and I took in the Hi Seoul Festival, which was used to promote the city of Seoul. We saw a reenactment at City Hall and also a BBoy (break dancing) competition. While there, we could also write our wishes on a ribbon and they would fly over Seoul at the end of the competition.

And here also is a cat that I was looking after for a friend for a weekend.
