Opposing Forces
Tensions have been rising in the nation of North Korea. The communist state conducted a nuclear test of its bomb last night- consequently enough, the anniversary of president Kim Jong-Il's inauguration.
"The nuclear test is a historic event that brought happiness to our military and people" says the Korean Central News Agency. "The nuclear test will contribute to maintianing peace and stability in the Korean peninsula and surrounding region" (MSN News).
In fact, the testing has done the opposite and aid to North Korea has been suspended. The South Korean Governement, as well as the US Military in Korea has heightened its defense against the North.
And so in defiance of the world, a small yet powerful nation has done what everyone has feared. But just how much further will they push that fear?

Melissa - love your blog! With respect to North Korea, I am not concerned...and "small but powerful" are two words that should NOT be used as adjectives to describe that desspot dictator state.
I realize they are being suspected of conducting a nuculear test but after working in Korea for the past ten years, I have become desensitized to them. They are
ridiculously poor, have no means of ever launching anything they made any distance at all, and conduct these tests as their only legitimate
bargaining chip for further relief aid for their impoverished people.
In this case their sole ally, China, has also spoken out against them so this will go no where fast. To close, I would certainly not let these actions worry me as they have been going on, in some form or another, since the 1960's when the DMZ was created.
Talk to you soon!
Ian
